The Kapiti Miniature Railway is a mixed-gauge (5 inch and 7¼ inch) club track, in Marine Gardens, Raumati Beach. We operate from the Kapiti Junction station at the club rooms.
We operate a variety of live steam, internal combustion and battery electric locomotives. The club owns some locomotives, and others are privately owned. You never know which ones will be operating on any given day!
The track is a triple loop including two viaducts, two tunnels and two spirals, and is just under a kilometre long, taking about 7 minutes for a round trip in a picturesque garden setting.
In February 2020 the club welcomed its newest loco, De504. This loco is now taking rides around the park. Read about the history of the DE504 (pdf) and our media release (pdf).
Your safety is important to us. We ask that you respect our track rules, social distancing and contact tracing plans which are listed at the station and listen to the safety briefings before your ride. If you have any issues, please go to the ticket office for assistance.
Babies and toddlers should be accompanied and held securely by an adult at all times.
Wrap up warm on cooler days, and you should always have footwear on while riding on our trains.
